Worst Used Cars on the Market

For many people, buying a used car is a stressful proposition. Which ones are the used cars to avoid? One of the most reliable places to conduct your research on such vehicles is Consumer Reports.
Used cars are not all lemons but there is certainly a list of best and worst used cars. Your goal is to find the best and avoid the worst used cars. Consumer Reports will help you to do just that and you can count on the publication to be fair and impartial.

Founded in 1936, the publication is controlled by a non-profit volunteer organization, the Consumers Union. Now available online at consumerreports.org, the magazine has a subscription base of some four million. All testing conducted by Consumer Reports is independent and unbiased. The organization does not accept any free samples or advertisements in an effort to avoid a perception of giving preferential treatment to any product or service. The only source of funding comes from subscriptions. In addition to its own testing procedures, Consumer Reports elicits feedback from consumers.

Cars Consumer Reports Recommends Avoiding

Each of the following vehicles are on the magazines list of automobiles with lower than average performance and can thus be considered potential used car lemons.

BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 series was introduced in 1977 as a full-size luxury sedan. There have been four generations of the series but the cars get low marks for poor handling and high fuel consumption.

Chevrolet Astro

The Astro, a mid-sized van introduced in 1985, has received low marks for the vulnerability of the passenger compartment to collapse during accident. The driver's sea is especially dangerous, trapping the driver with no avenue of escape. This is definitely one of the used cars to avoid

Chrysler Town & Country (AWD)

Chrysler introduced the Town & Country minivan in 1990. Essentially the reviewers report that this car has a high performance life of three years after which parts begin to fail, in particular the transmission.

Dodge Grand Caravan (AWD)

Chrysler introduced the Dodge Grand Caravan, a minivan, in 1998. Overall poor performance is cited as a reason to avoid the Grand Caravan, which also rates poorly on fuel efficiency.
