Great Deal or Total Scam? Salvage Cars

It would seem to be a rule of the market place that there's always a buyer for every item. This would certainly be the case with salvage cars for sale. Due to their rock bottom price, these cars that have been declared
not worthy for the road are attractive to some people who cannot afford either a used or a new car. Usually, salvage cars can be bought, as they are, at an auction; salvage cars can also be bought directly from junk lots. Essentially the buyers get the best "wreck" they can find with the plan of rebuilding the vehicle and making it operational again.

There are plenty of people who think that this strategy is a bad idea due to the potential danger of driving a car that has been totaled. This may or may not be true given the prevailing state of America's insurance agency. Cars that are still road worthy but that have been heavily damaged in a hail storm, for instance, may be totaled because it's cheaper for the insurance company to pay for the car than to pay for the repairs.

What Are Salvage Cars?

In instances where the amount of repairs required outweighs the market value of a car the insurance company will replace the car and dispose of the damaged one by issuing a salvage title and selling the car to a junk yard. From there it may either be chopped up for spare parts or it can become a restoration project for an interested individual or company.

A salvage yard doesn't face the kind of internal administrative costs incurred by an insurance company so these "junk" cars still represent profit potential for them. There are even companies that will take the parts and components from three or four damaged cars of the same make and model and combine them to create one restructured vehicle..

Can A Salvaged Car Be Repaired?

Most of the salvage cars for sale on the market have been restored to a reasonable degree of operation. Although they may not have the same longevity of a comparable used car, and certainly not that of a new vehicle, most will run with a fair degree of reliability for a year or more. This is really an issue of addressing the need that many people have for some means of transportation. America is a land that emphasizes the use of personal transportation over public means of getting around and for some people, holding down a job and just getting by isn't possible without a car. When your budget simply will not bear any other avenue of acquiring wheels, salvage cars are a viable option.
